At Madison County Health Care System, our surgical team is trained and experienced in the use of the most current techniques, including minimally invasive procedures. Our state-of-the-art equipment and laparoscopic systems help to reduce recovery discomfort and length of hospital stay for most patients. The MCHCS team includes experienced and skilled assistants and surgical technicians. MCHCS also employs an Advanced Practice Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist to provide safe, high quality and personal
care through your stay.

Paul Grossman, MD

Dr. Paul Grossmann is an accomplished general surgeon, credentialed with extensive training and over 25 years of experience in the operating room.

Dr. Grossmann provides minimally invasive and laparoscopic procedures including upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, hernia repair, appendectomy, gallbladder removal, abscess drainage, PEG tube insertion, port-a-cath placement, lipoma, neuroma and cyst excision, skin lesion removal, hemorrhoid therapy (HET) and pilonidal cyst excision.

After a thorough consultation and examination, Dr. Grossmann will discuss what treatment plan is most appropriate with the patient.

Diagnostic Procedures

If you’re referred to MCHCS for diagnostic tests, you may receive:

  • Bronchoscopy, which helps your doctor see inside your lungs
  • Colonoscopy, which uses a small camera to see inside your large intestine (colon)
  • Gastroscopy, in which a thin, flexible tube (endoscope) helps look inside your upper digestive tract, including your stomach and first part of the small intestine
  • Upper endoscopy (esophagogastroduodenoscopy) uses a thin scope with a light and camera to see inside your esophagus, stomach, and upper part of the small intestine

General Surgery Services

You and your doctor work with our skilled, board-certified surgeon who holds education and experience in a wide range of general surgery procedures, such as:

  • Abscess drainage – Drains infected fluid
  • Appendectomy – Removes the appendix
  • Breast surgery for medical needs, including lumpectomy and mastectomy
  • Cancer surgery – Removes tumors or cancerous tissue
  • Colon (bowel) resections – Remove part of the colon
  • Gallbladder surgery – Removal of the gallbladder
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) surgery (known as Nissen fundoplication) – Treats chronic heartburn and acid reflux
  • Hemorrhoid surgery – Removes swollen blood vessels inside the rectum (hemorrhoids)
  • Hernia repair – Corrects a hernia, or the bulging organs or tissues through the abdomen’s wall
  • Lipoma, neuroma and cyst excision – Removal of noncancerous tissue under the skin
  • PEG tube insertion – Insertion of a feeding tube placed through the abdomen into the stomach
  • Pilonidal cyst excision – removes a cyst at the top of the crease of your rear end (buttocks)
  • Port-a-cath placement – Insertion of a portal and catheter for intravenous fluids, blood transfusions, or drugs such as chemotherapy and antibiotics
  • Skin lesion removal – Removal of growths on the skin

Preparing For Surgery

After scheduling surgery, our team will help you prepare and explain what to expect before, during, and after your surgery.

Many patients are safely discharged from the hospital within hours of their surgery, but your physician will advise you on the anticipated length of your stay for your procedure. For your safety, surgical patients are not permitted to drive home after surgical procedures. Therefore, prior transportation arrangements are required.
