COVID-19

Madison County Health Care System is closely monitoring the spread of COVID-19 and is working closely with relevant state and local officials. We have adopted new policies and added new services in order to keep our patients and staff safe during the pandemic while delivering the highest quality health care.

TestIowa Initiative

All Iowans are strongly encouraged to visit www.testiowa.com and complete the online assessment.

TestIowa is a new initiative in partnership with our state leaders and private corporations. The goal is to dramatically increase the rate of COVID-19 testing so Iowans can have better access to testing and help stem the spread of COVID-19 to get us back to normal as quickly as possible.

If You Think You Have COVID-19

Please call us first at (515) 462-2950 if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including:

  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Temperature of 100.4 or greater

We have special precautions in place to care for patients with contagious diseases, including COVID-19, while keeping other patients and our staff safe. A member of our medical staff will speak to you and may give you special instructions.

Respiratory Urgent Care

We have a temporary drive-through Respiratory Urgent Care housed in our ambulance bay located on the east side of the hospital. You may be directed to be seen here if you are experiencing COVID-19 or similar respiratory symptoms. To access Respiratory Urgent Care, please use the main entrance on W. Hutchings street, take an immediate left, and follow the drive around the building to the south. Do not visit Respiratory Urgent Care without calling first at (515) 462-2950. Patients needing necessary routine care or with non-infectious acute conditions will be seen in our normal clinic space.

For your safety and the safety of our staff and other patients, always follow all directions given by medical staff when receiving care.

Telehealth

We are pleased to now offer our patients telehealth services. In a telehealth visit, you will meet with your health care provider via the Zoom mobile application.

To schedule a telehealth appointment, please call your home clinic as usual.  Health Trust Physicians Clinic can be reached at (515) 462-2950 and Earlham Medical Clinic can be reached at (515) 758-2907. Tell the scheduler you are interested in a telehealth visit. Your health care provider will determine if a virtual visit is appropriate for the type of care you need.

Some medical care must be provided during a face-to-face doctor visit. MCHCS has implemented several measures to ensure you can receive necessary medical care safely.

Facility Precautions

We have adopted new policies to ensure our patients, staff, and visitors are safe in our facility. We thank you for your cooperation and patience.

All patients, staff, and visitors will be screened before entering the building. This screening includes a temperature check and a series of questions about COVID-19 symptoms and risk factors.

All patients, staff, and visitors will be asked to wear a face mask in our facility. Patient facing staff and potentially contagious patients will be provided a medical-grade face mask. Non-patient facing staff and well patients and visitors will be asked to wear a cloth face covering.

Everyone is encouraged to wear a cloth face covering while in public per updated CDC guidance. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html

Testing

Madison County Health Care System does have the capability to perform testing for COVID-19 for patients that qualify. Your care team will help determine if testing is appropriate for you.

Effective May 21st, all Iowans who believe they should be tested can schedule a COVID-19 diagnostic test through the TestIowa initiative to be completed at a TestIowa site.  At this time the nearest testing location is in Des Moines at the Iowa Events Center. Please visit www.testiowa.com for more information.
