Madison County Health Care System Welcomes Dr. Dotty J. Walters

The Madison County Health Care System is pleased to announce that Dr. Dotty J. Walters, Au.D., Audiologist with the Woodard Hearing Aid Centers (WHAC) of Des Moines, is now providing audiology services at the Madison County Memorial Hospital specialty clinic on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays monthly. Services provided by Dr. Walters include diagnostic hearing testing and hearing aid evaluation and fittings. Woodard Hearing Aid Center has been in business for over 60 years. Their administrative offices are located in Des Moines. They also provide services to thirteen other communities around Des Moines.
Dr. Walters is a native of Humboldt and has 16 years of experience in the field of audiology, ten of those with WHAC. Dr. Walters received her BA and MA from the University of Northern Iowa and her Au.D. from the University of Florida. Dr. Walters became interested in the field of audiology when the daughter of a friend was fit with hearing aids. She said she enjoys working with all ages and was excited to add Madison County Memorial Hospital to the communities she serves.
Dr. Walters states that both new technology and new types of hearing aid configurations, to include open-ear fittings, have greatly enhanced her ability to help people improve their quality of life through better hearing. Hearing in noisy environments has always been a challenge with hearing aids. Dr. Walters said that advancements in hearing aid design and sound processing allow her to better maximize both listening comfort and speech understanding in noisy listening environments. She added that it is important to have a thorough evaluation to assess your hearing loss to determine which technology and style of hearing aid will best serve your individual lifestyle and hearing needs.
