Thanks to the thoughtfulness of people such as Bob and Harriet Campbell and Irvin and Lucile Martens, Madison County Memorial Hospital has accomplished great things. Through their estates, they left a legacy to Madison County Memorial Hospital that allowed the hospital to add much needed services. To encourage others to follow the lead of these generous supporters, Madison County Memorial Hospital is forming a Legacy Society to recognize the thoughtfulness and foresight of friends of the hospital.
Hospital CEO Marcia Hendricks said, “We want to salute those who remember Madison County Health Care System in their wills or as a beneficiary of a financial instrument, and we wish to do so during their lifetime.” She added, “We need not know any amount; we just ask for notification that you have listed Madison County Health Care System as a beneficiary in your will or for an insurance policy.”
The Legacy Society is for anyone who wants to make sure that quality care is available for the residents of Madison County in the future. There is no monetary threshold. Even the smallest gift can help the health care system meet its mission of providing health care you can trust. Legacy Society Charter Members, Hal and Avril Chase said, “Madison County Memorial Hospital is a vital institution to this community, and we're in full support of efforts to make it better.”
Chris Nolte, Hospital Director of Development, said, “The very basic concept of personal philanthropy was recently described to me in an easy way. This person said that if someone has a favorite charity, they can, for a one time gift of $10,000, give that charity a $500 contribution in their name each and every year forever. (This is based a moderately conservative return of 5% per year.)”
Nolte said, “If you would like to leave a planned gift, we would be pleased to work with you and your financial advisor to ensure your wishes are met. We needn’t know the amount or any of the specifics. A simple note from you telling us that you have remembered Madison County Health Care System or Madison County Health Trust, Inc. in your will is all we need to include you as a member of the Legacy Society.”
The hospital is working with Metal Décor, one of the leading tribute firms in the world, to design a fitting recognition to honor the members of the Legacy Society. Nolte said, “We will list donors’ names on a striking new display in the front lobby so that when patients and their families enter, they’ll be reminded of the thoughtfulness of those who honored Madison County Memorial Hospital with a gift.”
Gifts may be made in one of three ways. First, the gift can be to Madison County Health Care System. Secondly, a hospital-designated gift may come through Madison County Health Trust, Inc., which is a not-for-profit organization established to support health care needs in the county. Finally, a gift may be made through the Greater Madison County Community Foundation and designated to Madison County Health Care System. It should be noted that there may be additional tax advantages to making your gift through the community foundation.
This is an exciting year for Madison County Memorial Hospital as it celebrates sixty years of meeting the health care needs of the residents of Madison County. Nolte said, “Leave a legacy, and your gift will help make sure our hospital will continue to meet the needs of our families, friends and neighbors well into the future.” He added, “Of course, if a donor prefers, we will always respect their desire for anonymity.”
If you wish to support Madison County Memorial Hospital right now, there are many opportunities available, and your name will be added to the Legacy Society as well. Nolte said he would be pleased to talk with anyone about these opportunities.
